On Thursday, May 18th, Jerusalem Funk-Hip Hop Band, fronted by Corner Prophets MC Rebel Sun, have appeared on Israel’s popular talk show “London & Kirschenbaum” aided by rappers Kwami and Sagol 59, to help Rebel Sun’s struggle to get an israeli citizenship. His case will go to a Supreme Court hearing sometime soon. Read more about the band and the “Fight Rebel Sun” CD and campaign here.
Corner Prophets members and affiliates (Sagol 59, Rebel Sun, Mserious, Omex X, MC Klin and others) rocked the main Hip Hop stage at the annual free festival on Tel Aviv’s main street, held Friday March 28th, with an estimated crowd of 40,000 people.
Haaretz reports,
These days one can find hip-hop artists around the world with diverse ethnic backgrounds and family histories, but it is rare to find one who is the son of two former kibbutz members. Such is the case with Boston-based hip-hop artist Edan Portnoy. His last album, Beauty and the Beat, released earlier this year, stands out due to the original sounds he creates by infusing rock and roll and psychedelic music with hip-hop beats and sounds. While listening to his albums, it is evident that Edan has been influenced by a wide variety of music, ranging from hip-hop to rock and roll, and even Israeli music, which he says his parents played while he was growing up in Rockville, Maryland.
The Jerusalem Post is running a feature today on the Jerusalem hip-hop scene, giving special attention to Corner Prophets. Read the full story here.
